Hello Lancaster Community,
Welcome to Joseph B. Lancaster Elementary! I am anxiously awaiting our grand opening for the 2011-2012 school year! We have a magnificent and talented faculty eager to get started and a community ready to support the many terrific programs and educational experiences to challenge our students in so many wonderful ways.
My name is Susannah Welch, and I am proud to be the new principal of Lancaster Elementary. I have been in education for eighteen years in St. Tammany Parish. My career started at Mandeville Middle School as a fourth grade teacher and my experiences there included regular education, inclusion, and the WIN class. From there I went to Lake Harbor Middle School as the Resource Helping Teacher, and I advanced to Assistant Principal which is the position I have been in for the past six years now. I am a home-grown St. Tammany resident having graduated from Covington High in 1989.
Most of my college work was done through Southeastern Louisiana University. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and plus thirty with certification in administration and supervision. I am married with two children who are fifteen and six. My family is very excited about becoming part of the Madisonville community and growing with Lancaster Elementary.
As we look forward to this new year at a brand new school, it is essential that we all work together to insure that our students reach their full potential and are challenged academically, creatively, and physically. As a community, we must work as a team to make sure all children succeed. Please know that you are always welcome to volunteer at school in whatever capacity fits your schedule and interests. Also, you can continue to stay involved in your child’s education through this website. It will eventually have teacher web pages with classroom information pertaining specifically to your child’s education. In addition to this, weekly newsletters will be sent home with your child.
Being a new school holds many challenges, but the faculty and I have hit the ground running. We are eager to fulfill the expectations of the community as we work together to create a safe, warm learning environment where students are happy to come to school and parents always feel welcome. Additionally, the faculty and I are moving forward to build a solid instructional program that will challenge all students academically, creatively, physically, and socially.
As time passes and progress is made towards the opening of Lancaster, we will add updates to this website. Be sure to check periodically for new information.
Thank you for visiting our site, and we look forward to meeting our new students and parents!
Sincerely,
Susannah Welch
Principal
